Changes in light metro’s route in Trivandrum - Included Technopark
Good news for Technopark Employees as the officials have now decided to change the light metro route through Technopark campus. We, Prathidhwani – Socio Cultural Organisation of Technopark Employees requested and raised our concern at the time when we came to know that Technopark is being avoided from the route. Sincere thanks to the government and DMRC for hearing the voice of Technopark employees.
We are expecting the next phase of light metro to go via Chackai by including Technopark Phase II, Technopark Phase III and the airport.
Changes in light metro’s route in capital
Thiruvananthapuram: The light metro’s route in the capital is being changed. Instead of the track going from Kazhakoottam to Kariavattom via National Highway, it will now go to Ambalathumkara via bypass and turn to Kariavattom. The change is being made to provide the service to employees in Technopark.
The route prepared by the DMRC for light metro starts from Mangalapuram Technocity, goes through Kazhakoottam junction, Kariavattom, Pangappara, Ulloor, Kesavadasapuram, Pattom, Secretariat, Thampanoor, and ends at Karamana. There were protests for excluding Technopark from the light metro route.
It was even recommended that the light metro should go via Chackai by including Technopark and the airport. Since it was not technically feasible, the DMRC and the Kerala Rapid Transit Corporation stuck to the first route. However, the efforts made by KRTCL managing director P.M. Sheik Pareeth to find a new route to Kariavattom via Technopark have succeeded.
Companies and organisations in Technopark, including Prathidwani, had demanded that the route should be via its campus. The planned project will improve travel between Technopark and Technocity.
The new route will go near Ambalathumkara KSEB substation. The track will be built close to Technopark’s boundary wall. Efforts to find a route through Technopark were dropped earlier because of security concerns.
In the new route, the number of stations will increase from 19 to 20 and the distance will go up from 21.82 kilometres by about a kilometre. The cost of building stations and the route will increase proportionately. There will be a small increase in land acquisition too. Changes will be made in the project document that will be submitted for the cabinet’s approval.
At the same time, the revenue department has handed over 10.11 hectares of land acquired in Pallipuram for light metro depot to KRTCL. The land was acquired and handed over after the high court verdict in a petition filed by a private company regarding ownership of land came in favour of the revenue department.
