Media incubation centre mooted at Technopark

With a sudden surge in the number of media-based companies seeking office space at the Techopark - Technology Business Incubator (T-TBI), officials at the IT park are planning to submit a proposal for central assistance of Rs 5 crore to develop a Media Technology Incubation Centre at Technopark. Image removed. K C Chandrasekharan Nair, secretary and registrar of T-TBI, said his team is working on a proposal which will be sent to the department of science and technology by January 15. "There are many new animation companies doing exceptional work. Azinova Technologies, which was incubated here was the digital arm of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) this year, handling everything from delegate registration to hospitality management and seat reservations. Techies have been dabbling with film-making and the Qisa film festival has been an annual affair here. There is a film-related/reservation site that functions from T-TBI, called Metromatinee. Media is the way entrepreneurs are thinking these days, so something has to be done to encourage such business ideas and talents," said Nair. The current incubation facility provides a laboratory which used to develop mobile applications and IT-related technology. The Media Technology Incubation Centre, however, will contain a picture/sound editing studio for post-production work and a sound-proof space to host/create radio shows, cameras and other equipment essential for the film trade. By creating a favourable environment, Nair said more companies will flock to the proposed Media Technology Incubation Centre. While Rs 5 crore seems like a small amount for a project of such grand scale, the T-TBI registrar has said that the rest of the funding can be obtained from the state government. Around 2,000 applications are pending for incubation approval at Technopark and a majority of the applicants are involved in media-related work, be it logo designing, 3D animation, architectural walk-through or concept development.
