Ethiopian delegation visits Kerala's Technopark.

An 11?member delegation from Ethiopia paid a visit to Kerala's premier Technopark here Monday to understand the IT industry's role in empowering women and youth in the state.

Led by Ethiopia's Minister for Women, Youth and Children Zenebu Tadesse, the delegation is on a two?day visit to Kerala.

K.G. Girish Babu, chief executive officer of Technopark, made a presentation on the IT sector in Kerala, while senior business development officer of the IT park spoke on the importance of having a balanced men?women ratio at work.

"There are many women in high positions in the companies here. This trend can be followed by other IT parks too," M. Vasudevan said.

The visiting delegates also interacted with the representatives of the Technopark companies and the office?bearers of the recently formed Empowering Women in IT (e?WIT).

"The fact that 45 percent of the IT workforce here comprises of women of less than 26 years of age is very heartening. We hope to implement some of the best practices followed here in terms of empowering women and youth in our country," said Tadesse.

Ethiopia's Ambassador Gennet Zewide said she would like Technopark?based companies to work closely with Ethiopian IT firms.

The delegates will meet Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Social Welfare Minister M.K. Muneer Tuesday.
