Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 16 (IANS) A Kerala government initiative in Technopark here is now providing technical training, product visualization and preliminary business modelling to companies, an official said Tuesday.
The International Centre for Free and Open Source Software (ICFOSS) in Technopark here will support pre-incubation programmes.
The first company to be pre-incubated by ICFOSS is Cedar Info Solutions, started by three city students Varghese Mathew George, S. Arjun and Jones Kurian who finished Class 12 early this year.
ICFOSS on reviewing their proposal decided to provide them pre-incubation support providing technical training, handholding, product visualization and preliminary business modelling.
Following this these young students developed an android and web application to help ordinary citizens locate doctors around them.
"The students have shown acumen in creating a dual web-smartphone application, both from a technical perspective as well as from an entrepreneurship perspective," said Satish Babu, director, ICFOSS.
"ICFOSS would like to provide similar support and handholding to other groups of motivated youngsters who possess the passion for such enterprise," Babu said.
The ICFOSS is an autonomous institution under the Kerala government, mandated with the objectives of coordinating FOSS initiatives within Kerala, as well as linking up with such initiatives to push the agenda of promoting democratic access to information and knowledge through equitable models of production and distribution of software in particular and knowledge in general
