World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is an annual celebration which is being held every year from 1 to 7 August in more than 120 countries. Being organized by WABA, WHO and UNICEF, WBW came up with the goal to promote exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life which yields tremendous health benefits, providing critical nutrients, protection from deadly diseases. As per the Rapid Survey of Children 2013-'14 from Ministry Of Women & Child Development in Kerala, it is shown that rate of breastfeeding is decreasing in kerala and UNICEF observes that increase in number of working woman cause to decrease the rate of breastfeeding. In Actual fact working woman face different barriers like force to return to work soon after giving birth cause difficulty for them to Breastfeed exclusively for six months and to continue breastfeeding for two years or longer. To address the same issue in IT sector, Lady IT employees should be allowed 26 weeks of maternity leave and 'Work From Home' option for next 26 weeks. Also companies having more than 1000 employees must be enforced either to build creches individually or can set up a common facility within a prescribed distance from work place. - Prathidhwani Women Forum, Technopark -
